Gut Paintings
According to those who are teaching at guide dogs school for the blind, they do not favor any one student but there is a picture of one graduate which was hung on the wall just recently. The one in the picture is Jeannie the golden retriever and she now belongs to a woman from Denver, Colorado. The artist who did this portrait of Jeannie the dog can no longer see today. The blind artist says that painting has always been such a release that she needed it more than ever when she lost her eyesight. Usually, she would consider the Indian life in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona in her paintings before she went blind. You might be wondering if she still paints. Before doing any painting, what is important is that she is able to think. Her creativity has not changed as she can develop ideas and pictures in her mind. Damaging her painting surfaces were the pins that she began to use in creating outlines of the images she wanted to paint. She found a better way to go about this particular step when she paints.
Using a crayon, she made an outline for Jeannie's portrait by starting off with a line drawing. After making the outline, she paints inside the lines with a brush in her right hand. Not being able to see anything, it is dumbfounding when you think about how she was able to paint Jeannie.
Jeannie was transferred to the care of this artist and that was when Jeannie was described by the instructor at the school. With bronze highlights in her golden coat, the instructor said that Jeannie was like the sin when it sets. Smelling the pigments allows her to tell them apart and when she paints, she only uses two to three colors of paint. She wanted the tail to be proud and fluffy and so she used her finger for this part but for the rest of the portrait, she used a small paint brush. She knows for a fact that her works, especially this one of Jeannie, was good and this she can truly say because of a feeling that she has, she knows herself well enough to make this conclusion. When it comes to the painting of Jeannie, she said that Jeannie growled in approval.
This was a portrait that was magnificent. Her life remains to be useful after graduating from guide dogs school for the blind. After they graduate, most of the former students are able to find decent jobs. Since they have a lot of volunteers helping them out, the students of this school need not pay the $1700 that is needed for the training of each man and dog team.
